Brief History of RSML
Republican Scientific Medical Library was founded in 1939 as the main information source for medical community in Armenia. In 1946 as a result of a flood the main collection of the library was completely destroyed. In 1949 the library reestablished. During several decades the library collected, maintained a rich collection of biomedical literature, which nowadays amounts more than half million items. In 1951 according to the Health Ministry decree, RSML became a methodical and coordination center for the medical libraries of the country.
RSML is one of the country's leading library, bibliographic and information services center to the medical community of Armenia.
It has a collection of over half million printed items, which includes rare and early printed materials from the field of medicine and health care. It also includes books, thesis, monographs, serials, references, audio-visual materials, and microfiche.
The main focus of RSML activity is information services for medical professionals of the country with available traditional and modern reference systems, publishing, guidance in the network and professional development of medical librarians, automation of document processing and searching.
